Morning, Woonsocket! Kathleen Stoddart will get you started this Friday with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Rain. High: 63 Low: 41. Rain, Rain go away. I have more yardwork to do!

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center (WACTC) trains students and when possible, places them on their career path for the future. Students were interviewed and their motivation was apparent. This is a great alternative to traditional high school. (Turn to 10)
  2. A Woonsocket polyurethane manufacturing facility is looking for some help from the city in making improvements to its Founders Drive facility, including installing a solar panels on the building's 35,000-square-foot roof. Mearthane Products Corporation is planning to expand and improve the newly purchased Woonsocket facility. The Cranston-based company purchased the facility in 2020. By the end of 2022, it plans to relocate Virginia operations to Rhode Island, adding a second shift of six to 10 employees at the Woonsocket location. The solar panels would make the facility energy independent. (Valley Breeze)
  3. Woonsocket Adopt-A-Family is looking for more donors this holiday season. It matches donors to more than 1,800 children in more than 900 low-income families living in Woonsocket. The donor will receive the child's wish list. Then the donors shop, wrap and deliver the gifts to the distribution center. By adopting a family, donors agree to provide each child with at least three to four new clothing items and at least two to three new toys. The big donor companies are having a hard time organizing this year due to work-from-home policies. Monetary donations are accepted, too. Donations can be sent through the website by PayPal or mailed to Adopt-A-Family, PO Box 7665, Cumberland, RI, 02864. Woonsocket is fortunate to have an organization like this! (Valley Breeze)
  4. A closed Domino's is the only activity the Longley Building at the corner of Main and High streets has seen for many years, but the historic property could soon be home to at least a dozen apartments and a fully renovated commercial space. New units could be constructed in the building late next year. (Valley Breeze)
  5. DEAN COLLEGE PRESENTS 'ALL TOGETHER NOW!' at the Main Stage, Campus Center at Dean College, 109 West Central St., Franklin. 7:30 p.m. Presented by School of the Arts at Dean College, this high energy revue features songs from the world's most well-known musicals – part of a worldwide theatrical event to promote and support local theater. Open to families and guests age 12+ (Wicked Local)

You're officially in the loop for today!

Thanks for following along and staying informed with Kathleen Stoddart! I live in Woonsocket and have 3 grown kids and 3 dog babies to keep me busy. I love hardware stores and can be seen checking out all the cool stuff. Being a Realtor, I sort of have an excuse. It's heading into the Christmas season when I get to make baskets of goodies for our service workers and neighbors . Neighbors, please don't think we're crazy but my husband cooks his delicious deep-fried turkey and lowers it into the pot with his hockey stick!
