Happy Monday, people of Woonsocket! Let Kathleen Stoddart get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Sunny and beautiful. High: 59 Low: 35. Almost 60! The rest of the week should be warmer too.

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. The City of Woonsocket will be partnering with the Town of North Smithfield to offer Moderna COVID-19 booster clinics at Monsignor Gadoury School, 1371 Park Avenue in Woonsocket on Wednesday Nov. 10th and Wednesday Nov. 17th from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM. Appointments are required for these two clinics and can be scheduled at
www.vaccinateri.org . Enter "Woonsocket" in the "Search by Name Location" box and register for the date and time that is convenient for you. If you need help, call 1-844-930-1779. Woonsocket residents may also contact Kerri Topalian directly at Woonsocket City Hall at 767-9257 should you need assistance registering. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Landlords are requesting changes to the RentReliefRI program to keep it fair and balanced. There shouldn't be any situation where the tenant gets paid back-owed rent because that's not what this funding is meant for. Christine Hunsinger of RI Housing claims the program can't be changed locally since the U.S. Treasury Department oversees it and enforces the rules. "We pay the landlords in every instance where they agree to participate," Hunsinger said. "When we pay the tenant directly, the landlord did not agree to participate." The tenant has seven days after the check clears to pay their landlord any back-owed rent. If the tenant doesn't pay what they owe, Hunsinger said they will report that person to the U.S. Treasury Department – though not right away. There is a delay. So, RI Housing and landlords disagree with the outcomes. Since the 2021 program launched, RentReliefRI has given nearly $50 million rent payments to thousands of Landlords. (WPRI.com)
  3. Bill Gately and his partner, Dave Lambert, owners of Henri's Auto Repair, (1068 Park Ave.,Woonsocket) have been giving back to those who served in the military through an annual raffle of a repaired vehicle. Henri's takes vehicles people have donated to their veteran transportation project, puts them in good working order and then raffles them to eligible veterans signing up in advance. Three cars that will be raffled on Nov. 12 are a 2011 Mazda 3 sport, a 2000 Buick Le Sabre and a 2003 Ford Focus. So folks, donate your vehicles and Veterans please sign up! (Woonsocket Call)
  4. The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission wants steps taken to keep 3 graves undisturbed on a Cato Street lot. They were discovered last month. The land owners say it will not disrupt their plans to continue building. They must have a creative way to develop around the burial sites!(Valley Breeze)
