Woonsocket Election 2013: Voter's Guide

Woonsocket's 2013 election is tomorrow, with fifteen candidates for City Council and Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt and incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine vying for the city's top office — are you up to speed on the contenders?

CITY COUNCIL RACE:

INCUMBENTS Council President John Ward, Vice President Dan Gendron, Christopher Beauchamp, Al Brien, Marc Dubois, Roger Jalette and Bob Moreau.

CHALLENGERS Eric Cartier, Garrett Mancieri, Richard Fagnant, Melissa Murray, Kathryn M. Dumais and School Committee Members Anita McGuire-Forcier and Chris Roberts.

MAYORAL RACE:

Incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine 

Challenger Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49). 

The candidates have each offered plans for restoring about 1,300 street lights darkened in 2010, though Baldelli-Hunt announced hers first, entailing cutting the Economic Development Director position, which Fontaine criticized as a poor trade-off. Then Fontaine hinted at his own plan. Finally, Baldelli-Hunt amended hers and Fontaine outlined his own plan.

Baldelli-Hunt took issue with Fontaine's late campaign finance report, characterizing the slight as a deliberate deceit, despite her own late filings.
