Woonsocket Man Tries Getting Away, But Caught On Drug Charges
When Sergeant Mello identified himself as a police officer, police said the suspect sped away and almost hit him.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A man was arrested after police said he threw drugs out his car window and tried driving away.
The suspect was identified as Santonio Young, 37, of Woonsocket and is charged with drug possession and intent to sell after police said he threw a bag of 156 grams of cocaine and fentanyl out the window while trying to escape police.
Police Sergeant Diogo Mello approached two vehicles at the Wampanoag Plaze because of suspicious activity police said. When Mello identified himself as a police officer, police said Young sped away and almost hit him. The second vehicle tried getting away, but failed.

Someone called the police and told them they recorded the incident. Police said the video showed Young's passenger throwing a clear plastic bag, which contained cocaine and fentanyl out of the vehicle while Mello was distracted.
East Providence Police later found Young in town. They seized about $1800 cash and a small amount of marijuana.
