Woonsocket Man who Fathered Child with 13-Year-Old Stepdaughter Charged with Child Molestation

A 23-year-old Woonsocket man is facing child molestation charges for allegedly having sex with his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The crime came to light after the girl gave birth to a baby in April and workers at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence had a suspicion that Ruiz was the father.

Police said the girl first told police that she was approached for sex by a stranger when she was walking home from school one day.

But police continued investigating and eventually, she admitted that she had intercourse with Ruiz.

Ruiz is facing two counts of child molestation and is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after his Friday arraignment.

At the time of his arrest, Ruiz was free on bail for a 2014 felony shoplifting and conspiracy charge by Smithfield Police.

Ruiz is due to return to Sixth Division District Court on May 21 for a bail hearing.
