Woonsocket Structure To Be Demolished Monday
A portion of the road will be closed during the demolition of the property at 80 Hamlet Avenue as part of program to help eliminate blight.
WOONSOCKET, RI — A portion of Hamlet Avenue will be closed on Monday while a structure is demolished through Woonsocket's Blight Reduction program. The structure is located at 80 Hamlet Avenue and was targeted for elimination through the city's Density Reduction and Vacant Property Initiative.
The demolition will occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. During that time, a portion of the road will be closed to traffic and parking will be restricted.
Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt said the building will join more than 30 that the city has purchased and demolished since the program's inception in 2015. The program is aimed at improving the city's landscape, reducing crime associated with vacant properties and increasing property values.
