Woonsocket Teen Found With Gun And Ammo In Backpack At School

An officer searched his backpack and found an unloaded pistol and some ammunition inside.

WOONSOCKET, RI — A 14-year-old Woonsocket High School student was arrest Thursday morning after police said a gun was found in his backpack.

A school administrator notified the school resource officer that a student had been seen with a gun, Woonsocket Police said. The officer found the student, searched his backpack and found an unloaded pistol and some ammunition.

Police said no threats were made to any students.

The teen was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm by a minor, and license required to carry pistol, and possession of ammunition by a minor.

The student is being held at Rhode Island Training School, pending an arraignment at Family Court Friday.
