Here are the top stories in Charleston today:
- Deputies have arrested two men following a high-speed chase and a foot chase near the North Charleston area. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested Deron Maxwell, 44, and Fordell Washington, 42, Friday night after a deputy spotted a car with a stolen license plate on I-526. Investigators reported that in the suspect's car they found new TVs, smartwatches, purses, and cookware that still had price tags on them. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- A 14-year-old boy will be facing charges after school officials found a loaded gun in a bookbag at North Charleston High School. North Charleston police officials said around noon on Monday officers were called after a suspicious bookbag was found. A report states school officials looked inside to see who it belonged to and found a loaded firearm. According to police, the school's SRO conducted an investigation and identified the alleged offender. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- The Charleston Police Department has received a $30K training grant from the Rotary Club of Charleston to be put towards CPD's Leadership Development Institute. (WCBD News 2)
- "Archaeology Magazine" has named the slave tag from 1853 found at the College of Charleston among its Top 10 Discoveries of 2021. (holycitysinner.com)
- A Switzerland-based medical supplier, Belimed Life Science Inc., is opening soon in North Charleston and is expected to create 22 jobs. (WCBD News 2)
