Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Charleston Daily.

Mostly sunny and humid. High: 81 Low: 67.

Here are the top stories in Charleston today:

  1. A Charleston County man has received $8,000 in a settlement from a 2019 traffic stop. Ernest Cooksey says he was pulled over on Wadmalaw Island for traveling ten miles per hour under the speed limit and swerving slightly, then arrested for driving under the influence. However, Cooksey reports that he did not have any alcohol in his system, and the results of multiple sobriety tests demonstrated the same; the charges against him were later dropped. When he sued the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the case was settled, and the South Carolina Insurance Reserve Fund paid him. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. The North Charleston Police Department is hosting a baby shower for new and expectant mothers this morning. The "Baby Changes Everything" drive-in-style event takes place at North Charleston City Hall and will offer educational resources for new mothers. Speakers will present brief workshops on safely traveling with a baby, healthy lifestyle choices, and dealing with postpartum depression. There will be raffles for door prizes like cribs, diapers bags, strollers, and infant sleepers, as well as goodie bags handed out to all attendees. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. Yesterday, the Boone Hall Plantation's annual corn maze opened for the season. (WCBD News 2)
  4. The Charleston City Council is discussing a potential salary raise for council members, in part to incentivize a more diverse group of candidates. (WTMA)
  5. A traffic incident involving a pedestrian near Cannon and Coming Street sent one victim to the Medical University of South Carolina in serious condition. (ABC NEWS 4)
