1. Nursing Home Sued After Alzheimer's Patient Was Found With More Than 1,000 Fire Ant Bites and Stings (globemagazine.com) — An 83-year-old woman with advanced Alzheimer's was allegedly able to leave a Charleston memory care facility through an unsecured door and was later found outside with extensive fire ant bites. Her family has filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit, and Charleston police are investigating whether the facility followed South Carolina's Alzheimer's care laws and safety protocols.
   

2. Foundation launches $100M affordable housing initiative (charlestoncitypaper.com) — A new $100 million Tri-County Housing Futures Fund aims to expand safe, affordable housing across the Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester region through new construction, repairs and added financing. Alongside that, Charleston faces 146 out-of-service hydrants, a Main Library renovation move, potential tax incentives for Robert Mills Manor upgrades, and a new mobile Head Start classroom, all while Charleston City Paper promotes local events and coverage.
   

3. HOT PROPERTIES: New deals reshape commercial property across the state (scbiz.com) — Several new commercial real estate deals are reshaping parts of Charleston and North Charleston, including a sizable flex-space lease on Meeting Street Road and land sales on Ashley River Road. The roundup also tracks major leases and sales across Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, and other South Carolina markets, showing how investment is flowing statewide.
   

4. Berkeley County advances rezoning plan for Cane Bay Lake Village development (counton2.com) — Berkeley County is advancing a rezoning plan that could bring thousands of new homes, commercial space, and even a school to the Cane Bay Lake Village area, while some residents push back against outside developers, including those from Charleston. Supporters argue the project will add infrastructure and reduce traffic strain, and the proposal now moves to further council review.
