Charleston County secures $1M in state funding to support new EMS headquarters (live5news.com) — Charleston County has secured $1 million in state funding to fully move ahead with a new EMS headquarters on Azalea Drive, designed as a central hub for training, logistics, and emergency operations. The consolidated facility will replace seven scattered buildings, strengthen hurricane and disaster readiness, and provide advanced training space for hundreds of regional first responders.
   

2. Charleston County School Board weighs audit after state report flags misconduct (counton2.com) — Charleston County School District leaders are weighing an independent audit after a state Inspector General report flagged possible misconduct, conflicts of interest, and questionable payments to two vendors. Tonight's Committee of the Whole meeting could launch a deep review of contracts, invoices, and safeguards, while officials work on recovering any improper funds and a state panel considers whether to recommend removing a board member.
   

3. Charleston Honors Women Veterans and Community Leaders (news-usa.today) — Women veterans and community leaders from the Charleston chapter of the National Association of Black Military Women were recently honored at a gathering in North Charleston, celebrating decades of service and community impact. The event focused on preserving the stories of Black women veterans, strengthening mentorship, and ensuring future generations have a strong local support network in the Lowcountry.
   

4. Local chef teams with Star Gospel Mission to support homeless families (abcnews4.com) — Charleston's Star Gospel Mission, the city's oldest independent faith-based charity, has teamed up with local chef Michael Toscano to sell weekly focaccia sandwiches that benefit homeless women and children. For 12 weeks, each rotating sandwich has raised funds and awareness for families in need, with the final creation available through Sept. 20 as the partnership highlights ongoing homelessness challenges.
   

5. Inside the Charleston mansion where 1800s wallpaper still curls off the walls (wheninyourstate.com) — Charleston residents and visitors can step into the Aiken-Rhett House on Elizabeth Street, where original 1800s wallpaper, outbuildings, and artifacts remain largely untouched. The museum offers a self-guided audio tour that contrasts grand parlors with preserved enslaved quarters and even a Revolutionary War trench, giving a rare, layered look at the city's architectural and social history.
