Today's riddle: Why did the girl pig break up with the boy pig? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. St. Michael's Church Celebrates 275 Years (tidelinesblog.com) — St. Michael's Church on Broad Street will mark its 275th anniversary on October 7 with a public celebration featuring Mayor William Cogswell, tourism leader Helen Hill, and church leaders reflecting on its history and future. As Charleston's oldest church building and a Four Corners of Law landmark, it has survived wars, disasters, and hosted George Washington, and a commemorative plaque will be installed later this year.
2. Charleston Water System $30M effort to replace lead service lines (abcnews4.com) — Charleston Water System has begun a decade-long, $30 million project to replace more than 2,000 remaining lead service lines in North Charleston and downtown, funded by an EPA grant instead of ratepayers. Crews are already working on streets with 1930s-era pipes, and officials say water tests remain well below federal lead limits. A public meeting is planned Oct. 21 at the utility's downtown office.
3. Meetings address controversy over College of Charleston Dorm, Coming Street Commons, on burial ground (counton2.com) — Charleston residents are weighing in on a planned College of Charleston dorm at 106 Coming Street, a site many believe is a historic burial ground and former YWCA landmark. Two parallel meetings Thursday let community members voice concerns, learn more about the land's history, and hear how the college plans to commemorate the site while adding badly needed student housing. Organizers say they want collaboration, education, and respectful treatment of the remains.
4. FIRST ALERT: Areas of dense fog possible Friday, Saturday mornings (live5news.com) — Charleston commuters are warned to expect potentially dense fog Friday morning that could slow travel and reduce visibility, along with minor tidal flooding Friday afternoon along the Charleston and Colleton County coasts. The forecast also calls for increasing rain and storms through the weekend and early next week, while the National Hurricane Center monitors a system in the central Atlantic.
5. Who inspires your community? News 2 seeks nominations for women making a difference in the Lowcountry (counton2.com) — Charleston's News 2 is inviting you to nominate up to three Remarkable Women who are making a difference across the Lowcountry now through November 20. Honorees can receive donations for their favorite nonprofits and a trip to Nashville, while one local winner will be named the Lowcountry's 2027 Remarkable Woman during Women's History Month.
