The college also plans an Oct. 24 ancestor commemoration ceremony as it prepares to remove asphalt and advance the project.

She says many students are in school for the first time and need hands‑on creative space to build fine‑motor skills, confidence, and problem‑solving, and notes teachers often pay for supplies themselves.
3. Charleston drafts ordinance to expand traffic review for developers (live5news.com) — Charleston leaders are drafting an ordinance requiring developers on Johns Island to prove their projects won't worsen surrounding traffic before moving forward. Alongside this, major road upgrades on Maybank Highway, U.S. 17 and Main Road, new sidewalks, and a 2028 recreation center are planned, many tied to a transportation sales‑tax referendum that could also expand greenbelt protections.
4. Charleston again named top U.S. city by Condé Nast Traveler readers, fifth straight year (abcnews4.com) — Charleston has again been named Condé Nast Traveler readers' top U.S. city, marking the fifth straight year and 15th time in 16 years. Local resorts and hotels also earned top rankings, and tourism analysts estimate the region's visitor economy now exceeds $14 billion annually, supporting local businesses, infrastructure, public safety, and cultural amenities.
5. Legal assistant charged with impersonating lawyer in Charleston: SLED (counton2.com) — A legal assistant for the Ninth Circuit Public Defender's Office has been charged with impersonating a lawyer after allegedly sending a settlement‑demand letter from Charleston County on official letterhead and signing it as a senior assistant public defender.
