Last week, I posted an article on this site about Thanksgiving. I am one of many who thinks that the commercialization of this truly American holiday is a tragedy. Each year in the spirit of greater Christmas profits, stores have been opening earlier on Friday, and lately, opening on Thanksgiving, forcing workers to leave their families on this holiday.
It was an opinion piece, as are many in the Charleston Patch.
So it was with astonishment that I learned that this post had been deleted that evening. When I inquired as to why, there was no response. I am hoping that this publication does not censor based on commercial interests. The post certainly contained nothing offensive.
So here I am again to say that, in the true spirit of this holiday season, I encourage shoppers to give their business to the employers who value those who work for them, with living wages, benefits and reasonable hours.
