Here are the top stories in Charleston today:
- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from their disabled boat near Charleston Thursday.
Officials say the disabled boat was first reported by a good samaritan who said the boat had no communication equipment and was approximately nine miles off the Charleston coast. Crews were able to tow the boat and people to Remley's Point boat ramp. Coast Guard officials say no medical concerns were reported. Petty Officer 2nd James Sokol stressed the importance of communications equipment onboard boats. (Live 5 News WCSC) - A team of runners began a 122-mile journey yesterday morning from Charleston to the State House in Columbia. The "Run for the Fallen" will pay tribute to military members who died in the War in Iraq by running for and calling out the names of 390 fallen military members from South Carolina. They are live streaming all the hero marker stops online where you can see a map of the hero they will honor at each stop. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- Reminder: North Charleston is hosting its annual Harvest Festival today in the Olde Village on East Montague Avenue near Park Circle from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. (WCBD News 2)
- Charleston officials have narrowed down the next potential operators to the city's bike-share program, the final two being a startup and one of the world's largest bike and scooter share companies. (Charleston City Paper)
