7.9 Mile Ride Through West Ashley

Some of the things that I have noticed while riding my bike to work every day through West Ashley.

Like most of you, I have been looking for ways to trim the family budget.  One way I have done this is to ride my bicycle back and forth to work to save on gas. It is 7.9 miles from my driveway to the back door of my office in downtown Charleston. I usually leave the house just after 6am and make it to the office about 45 minutes later. Not only am I saving the family a couple of dollars, but by taking my time, I have noticed things that I never noticed while driving my car.

-Today on the way home I counted three hubcaps between the bottom of Ashley River Bridge and the corner of Colony Drive and St. Andrews Blvd. You may want to go check your tires.

-Business’ tend to edge their sidewalks more often than homeowners. I imagine this is due to the fact that most people do their own yard work rather than hiring a company like a business would do.

-Bessingers BBQ smells absolutely heavenly! (And is of course very tasty.) I truly enjoy getting caught at the light at Savannah Highway and White Oak Drive.

-Cyclist and walkers are a friendly sort. We tend to smile and wave to each other.

-Why oh why are so many of you talking on the phone while you drive? Is the conversation really that important? If it is that important, then please pull over. If it’s not important, hang up the phone and drive!

-The view from the top of the Ashley River Bridge at 7am is absolutely beautiful. And the smell of the pluff mud always reminds me why I call West Ashley home.
