I am a mom of four children, and they were all in elementary school when the No Child Left Behind Act was passed. This mandate from the federal government was intrusive of our states' rights and local control of our educational process.
So I decided to run for office because I wanted to have a voice, and I felt that I could make a difference because no one else was speaking up.
On the Charleston County School Board, I stood up to the bureaucracy, the establishment and I said no, no to government bureaucracy, no to increased unsustainable programs, no to taxation.
I want to go to Washington and do the same thing.
My husband and I run three small businesses. It's been proven that when you reduce the burden on the taxpayer, the economy grows and government doesn't create jobs people do.
But the problem that I have now is I don't feel like we're being heard that we have a voice at the federal level, that our representatives are paying attention to us, it's go with the flow do as your told and nothing gets done. We elect you to work for us, and that’s who you need to answer to.
Being a conservative woman I am often accused of being outspoken, and I am because I am standing up for my constituents it's about time someone stood up and said no more spending.
You know everybody seems to make this more complicated than it really is, whether you have ten dollars or a hundred billion dollars, you don't spend more than you bring in.
We need to get rid of the tax code and eliminate the IRS; we need to get the government out of our lives so that we can be productive.
I think we need more conservative women in office; we've run small businesses; we've raised families; we've handled the family budget, and it really just comes down to common sense.
