May 1973...and now 39 years later

Local photographer has Charleston in his blood.

When I moved to Charleston in 1973, just after graduating from Ohio University, I never dreamed that almost 39 years later, I would still be living here.  A lot has changed in the physical feel of the Charleston area but a lot remains the same.

One thing that has not changed is the overall quality of life.  People here love the outdoors, the food, the art, the architecture and have kept it a wonderful place to live and work.  Although all areas around Charleston have grown, it has kept much of the "southern charm" it has always had.  I credit the people of Charleston with making this possible.

Being out of the main traffic patterns, people have to make a conscious effort to travel here.  I think that is part of the reason why Charleston is a city that still has a lot of small town charm.  When I walk the streets of downtown Charleston I see so many familiar faces.  It just feels like home.  I love to travel but I also like it when I return.  Charleston is like getting into your own bed after a long trip.  It is warm, safe and familiar.

Over the past 6 months I have been trying to grow my business as a local artistic photographer.  I don't think I would have seen such quick progress if I had been living in a larger city.  It was the beauty, charm and architecture of Charleston that really gained my attention in the first place.  There is no other place, anywhere, that even comes close to being Charleston.

I cannot image being happier anywhere else.  So, almost 39 years later, the love affair with Charleston is just as strong as it ever was.
