What a great way to end a year!
The last day before his 61st birthday can be a bit depressing for some but not for this local artist.

March 7, 2012, was my last day before turning 61. It could have been a down day but it turned out to be one of my best days in awhile. As a self-employed artistic photographer, some days I need to hold a "rah-rah" session to get moving. Being new at promoting my art is an emotional roller coaster ride. I find it difficult to structure my days. I feel I need to be busy every moment of the day. Well, sports fans, that just ain't possible. I keep telling that little voice in my head to chill.
Yesterday was not like that. Not at all. I got an email about doing a show for three months in a local restaurant. I already have framed pieces in a number of busy businesses as well as a few galleries. I enter numerous art expos and follow up on all opportunities to show my work. So, I feel I am making progress on the road to getting "known".
So, I head to Mt. Pleasant to check on a current location and check out the location for the show I am being offered. From there, with a protein bar in hand for lunch, I enter a few office buildings to hand out business pamphlets. I noticed the Tides Condos across the way and finessed my way to the roof where I took photos of the marsh and the Ravenel Bridge. The sun was out and the sky was a deep blue

On the way to visit a friend near Broad Street I bumped into a local artist I knew and spent 20 minutes catching up. He took a card to remind him to see check new entries on my site. A few minutes later, on the same block, I ran into a gallery co-owner, told her about my new endeavor, caught up for a few minutes and again dropped a card. On the way back to my car I bumped into the wife of a local artist and gallery owner, introduced myself and chatted for 10 minutes and dropped a card. There are quite a few people in the "arts" community willing to talk to, listen to, and possibly help another artist. It is a wonderful Charleston-type happening.
What started out as a ho-hum day was a full day of good experiences and business contacts. What could have been a "whoa is me" day turned out to be a "whoa, what a great day!". If I had tried to plan the last day of being 60 years old, I could not have planned it better.
