Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Two proposals Charleston County Schools is currently considering two proposals with a total cost of over $30 million. The controversial Reimagine Schools from the Coastal Community Foundation is spearheading one proposal while the other comes from the Charity Foundation. Learn more about each proposal in the link.   2. A rally happened last night in North Charleston for a man who died after an officer-involved shooting almost two weeks ago. 35-year-old Junnie Williams was killed when a struggle ensued after officers responded to a break-in during the early morning hours of Jan. 16. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. The public is calling on greater transparency around the incident including the release of body cam footage.   3. A popular downtown Charleston restaurant, Magnolia's, has reopened after closing 5-months to repair fire damage. Magnolia's, located at 185 East Bay St., opened nearly 32 years ago. The owners are happy to be open after a difficult time and welcome those in the area to check out their new additions and classic menu items. (Charleston Post Courier)

  • The City of Charleston is hosting a Mentor Recruitment Fair Saturday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center, located at 265 Fishburne Street. The event will feature a range of local mentoring organizations and will offer attendees a chance to learn about available volunteer opportunities throughout the community. (Press Release Desk)
  • Engine 121 and Tender 121 from the Charleston Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire on Charleston Regional Parkway on Wednesday. Crews arrived to find the front of the vehicle fully involved and worked to quickly extinguish the fire. The occupants of the vehicle were able to exit without sustaining injuries. (Facebook)
  • Charleston County Public Library put together a selection of recommended titles to read to enlighten readers about the Holocaust during yesterday's Holocaust Remembrance Day. (Facebook)
