🌱CCSD Ends Mask Mandate Early + Shooting In N. Charleston

Here are the top stories today in Charleston:

  1. In an eight to one vote, the Charleston County School District mask mandate will end early following a Board of Trustees special meeting yesterday. The mask mandate will now cease tomorrow and masks will be optional moving forward. The mandate was originally supposed to end this Friday. (WCBD News 2)
  2. One person is dead following shooting in North Charleston yesterday afternoon. Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to 4106 Dorchester Rd. at 1:15 p.m. When authorities arrived they found a man deceased from a gunshot wound. Police are continuing the investigation. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey's deadline for employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is in two weeks. The mayor announced last month he would move the deadline from this Friday to Nov. 19. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  4. Work is almost done on a short-term project that is part of an effort to preserve two towering smokestacks in the East Side neighborhood of Charleston. The stacks had been considered in danger of collapse. The nearly complete $527,000 project includes removing the inner lining and securing various weak spots. They are being preserved as a reminder of the area's industrial past. (U.S. News)
