Here are the top stories in Charleston and surrounding communities today:

  1. Charleston Beer Week will take place Oct. 29-Nov. 7, with more than 50 events taking place at breweries, restaurants, and various other locations throughout the Lowcountry. The eighth annual 10-day event is back after its 2020 cancellation. Opening day will bring beer drinkers to Two Blokes, Munkle, and Palmetto, and the rest of the week will feature everything from a live art competition to "beer Olympics." (Charleston City Paper)
  2. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision on I-26 early Monday morning. The crash temporarily closed all lanes on I-26 E between E. Montague and Dorchester Road and left the driver of one vehicle dead. The other driver, 26-year-old Xavier Rosado of North Charleston, is facing charges of reckless homicide, leaving the scene of a collision involving death, and leaving the scene of a collision involving bodily injury.
  3. The Medical University of South Carolina are helping make the Charleston International Airport a little less stressful for travelers by providing therapy dogs. (WCBD News 2)
  4. The Berkley County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a fatal shooting in Goose Creek. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  5. Mt. Pleasant has launched a one-year, $9.6 million flood improvement plan for the Old Village area to reduce the effects of flooding on homes. (CHStoday)
