- The State Ports Authority will pay $4.75 million to the Charleston County School District to settle a more than decade-long legal dispute over property where the maritime agency plans to build a rail yard for its new Leatherman Terminal. The payment, approved Sept. 21 by the SPA's board of directors, reimburses the school district for its interest in a 3.74-acre parcel where the Academic Magnet High School once operated. The former school site is part of a larger tract that state-owned Palmetto Railways acquired in 2010 through condemnation for the railyard project.(Charleston Post Courier)
