Here are the top stories today in Charleston:
- Charleston residents got quite a surprise when they went to a local fast-food restaurant. Chevy Chase showed up at one of the Charleston Raising Cane's locations to grab some chicken as well as surprise some unsuspecting customers at the drive-thru line. "In true Chevy Chase form, he asked to jump behind the counter and hilarity ensued as he served up their orders in the drive-thru and inside at the counter," company officials said. (Live 5 News)
- Yesterday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation announced pending sidewalk and lane closures necessary for repairs on the Ashley River Bridge. Beginning Dec. 13, the left lane on U.S. 17 northbound will be shut down to traffic from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. The closure will allow repairs to the bridge's guard rails. (News 2)
- A convicted felon will spend 13 years behind bars following an incident at a North Charleston nightclub in 2017. Yesterday, 33-year-old Joseph Roberto Major was sentenced after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. (ABC News 4)
- Charleston Police chief Luther Reynolds says his officers are working to improve the agency two years after a racial bias audit was published. Reynolds said the department will stick with all 72 recommendations in an effort to disclose everything and to be as transparent as possible. (94.3 WSC)
