Hey, people of Charleston! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with the Tuesday Charleston Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 62 Low: 39.

Here are the top stories in Charleston today:

  1. Yesterday, Charleston Police asked drivers to avoid the area of Cane Slash Road on Johns Island after an accident. The department's Major Accident Investigation Team was at the scene of the crash in the 3100 block of Cane Slash Road responding to a crash with injuries. The St. Johns Fire District said the crash, near Grand Bay Lane, resulted in at least one fatality and involved a motorcycle and another vehicle. The investigation is ongoing. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. Charleston International Airport reported it doubled its Thanksgiving holiday passenger count from the same time in 2020. Officials said the airport saw 44,890 passengers board through its gates between Tuesday and Sunday. This is up from 19,367 passengers serviced during this same time period in 2020, before the release of a COVID-19 vaccine. (WTMA)
  3. A gun store owner who shot and killed a man inside his Charleston area store has been arrested. Jon Whitley was booked in the Berkeley County Detention Center yesterday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter and is being held on a $15,000 bond. Whitley told sheriff's deputies he accidentally killed Stefan Mrgan inside his Coastal Firearms store on Cainhoy Rd. when Whitley mistook his handgun for a BB gun. (News Observer)
  4. South Carolina's work to draw new districts after last year's U.S. Census should get closer to completion this week. The state Senate committee handling redistricting held a public meeting Monday about its proposed U.S. House maps released last week. The main changes are in the Charleston area where voters could shift from the Sixth Congressional District, which is represented by Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn, and the First Congressional District, represented by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace. The full house then returns tomorrow to take up their 124 redrawn districts. (Live 5 News WCSC)
