(Patch Media)

Good morning, Charleston! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to enjoy the holidays, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Charleston Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and nice. High: 65 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Charleston today:

  1. A Medical University of South Carolina doctor has given several safety tips to prospective travelers during the holidays as the Omicron variant spreads throughout the U.S. Dr. Julie Hirschhorn, the director of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at MUSC, said people traveling during the holidays need to assess their risk of contracting the virus before they leave. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. The owners of a Downtown Charleston hotel have appealed to the South Carolina Supreme Court, hoping the court will take their side in a discrepancy over whether the hotel is permitted to have a rooftop bar. The Dewberry, a popular King Street hotel, has been battling for its right to operate a rooftop bar after the City of Charleston denied a zoning exception, saying the Dewberry changed plans for the space without proper authorization. (WCBD News 2)
  3. Hundreds of people will soon be able to receive free dental services due to an expansion of a partnership between a North Charleston church and a non-profit dental clinic. Since it first opened in 1998, North Charleston Dental Outreach said it has provided more than $375,000 worth of dental care for people in the community. Come summer of 2022, North Charleston Dental Outreach will have a new home next door to the Destiny Worship Center off Azalea Drive in North Charleston. (Live 5 News WCSC)
