Double Murder Arrest + Juneteenth To Be County-Recognized Holiday

Here are the top stories today in Charleston:
- The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a man suspected of a double murder in North Charleston. Michael Parker's arrest comes from a Sept. 19 investigation when police officers responded to the Econo Lodge for a report of a male victim who had been shot and killed. During the investigation, authorities found a female victim at the Red Roof Inn had also been killed. Parker was charged with both murders. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- The Charleston County Council voted Thursday evening to make Juneteenth a county-recognized holiday. The county will incur approximately $100,000 in holiday pay costs for county employees who will be required to work on the holiday. This follows President Joe Biden signing the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law on June 17, making June 19 a federal holiday. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- Charleston's only Black-owned credit union - C O Federal Credit Union - has officially closed, with many patrons saying 'it's like another death in the family.' (carolinapanorama.com)

- The Medical University Hospital Authority received six acres of land to build a Sea Islands emergency facility. (Charleston Regional Business)
