Community Beekeeping Class

BEEKEEPING: This basic course offers information and will answer questions on how to set up and maintain a beehive. We will cover the biology of bees, parts of the beehive, installing package bees, and management for honey production. A number of handouts on the each topic will be given to each participate for future reference. At the end of the class, you will have the knowledge to determine if you want to establish your own hive capable of producing 60 or more pounds of honey each year. It is said that if everyone knew how easy it is to keep bees, they would all have a hive in their back yard! Tom Porter has been beekeeping for three years and currently has nine hives. He has fulfilled the requirements and received the designation of Certified Beekeeper as part of the Master Beekeeper Program administered by the SC Beekeepers Association and Clemson University Extension Service. Class held in two sessions. Advanced registration required.
