Grand Opening of Plato's Closet in West Ashley
Local Entrepreneurs Open Popular Teen and Twenty-Something Retail Store that Recycles Fashion at a Discount
West Ashley (May 26, 2016) – Local teens and twenty-somethings now have a place that not only puts cash back into their pockets, but sells gently-used brand-name clothing and accessories for less!
With a focus on being fashion savvy and shopping smart, the new Plato’s Closet in West Ashley kicks off its grand opening celebration today on Thursday, May 25 at 1720 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. Plato’s Closet is part of a unique national recycling retail chain that specializes in clothing and accessories for teens and twenty-somethings. The hip, trendy clothing store buys and sells guys and girls gently-used, brand-name clothing and accessories, including: shoes, belts, purses, and jewelry, among other items.
According to Kha Stewart, who co-owns the new Plato’s Closet with her husband Eric Stewart, teens and twenty-somethings love to shop at Plato’s Closet because they can get brand-name clothing at great values. And, parents love the fact that their kids can take their gently-used brand-name clothing and turn it into cash. The Stewarts also own the Plato’s Closet in North Charleston and another in Rock Hill.

“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Stewart said. “We are a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment. The great thing about the concept is that consumers are always looking for ways to stretch their dollar and Plato’s Closet lets them save money in two ways. Customers can achieve savings up to 70 percent off trendy, brand-name clothing and accessories. Plus, they can receive cash on the spot for gently-used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.”
Unlike a typical consignment store, no appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. Plus, the store pays cash on the spot for goods it purchases from consumers. Typically, Plato’s Closet buys items that have been in retail stores within the past 12-to-18 months and are current styles seen in the mall. “We don’t try to create new fashion trends, we respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner,” Stewart added.
