Well, I've been trying to post on The Patch for at least a week, and haven't been able to get past some weirdness that wouldn't let me select my blog. It occurred to me over the weekend to try a different browser. So here I am.
Technology is amazing and frustrating. It took a few years to stop being afraid of breaking "it." Meaning my computer, and anything I might have on it. My kids helped me with that.
They taught me by ignoring my emails. Then when I persisted, they insisted they had no idea what was wrong. And finally, in a stroke of brilliance, they taught me to "google it."
If you didn't know, I am about to make your day. You can google anything. Google doesn't expect you to use proper English; you can just toss in a few keywords. Like "start new blog" or "screen freezing." Google has seriously helped me through some tough times, when my children had abandoned me.
If you're uncomfortable with the keyword concept, just ask google a question. It will ignore all the irrelevant or excess words and get right to the point. For example if you said, "How can I start a new blog?" it will hear "start new blog" and give you a bunch of possible answers.
The other thing about google, other than it will never make you feel like you are annoying, is that whatever dumb or really weird question you might have, hundreds of others have gotten there before you. Comforting, isn't it?
Sadly, the one thing google couldn't help me with was why I couldn't log on to my blog on The Patch. But after you've done this for awhile, you'll find that just walking away from it for a few hours -- or days -- will produce the most amazing, and amazingly simple, ideas, like try a different browser.
Which, when it works, will cause you to feel so smart you just have to share it.
