Here are the top stories today in Charleston:
- A program is looking to provide underserved Charleston County School District students with access to eye-care. The Vision To Learn program, in partnership with MUSC Health, will provide students with vision screenings, eye exams, and a new pair of glasses, all at no cost. The program will bring a mobile vision clinic carrying a licensed South Carolina optometrist and optician directly to kids at Title I schools in the district. (ABC NEWS 4)
- Students were dismissed early on Wednesday due to a power outage at James Island Charter High School. Most of the building lost power around 10:20 a.m. because of an accident at a construction site and by noon, students were let go as there was no indication when power would be restored. The building stayed opened and was supervised until 3:30 p.m. for students who are unable to be picked up early. (ABC NEWS 4)
- Activist Justin Hunt and others with the South Carolina Black Activist Coalition held a press conference outside the Sherriff Al Cannon Detention Center on Tuesday, addressing claims about 'targeting' and spying by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. (Live 5 News)
