Here are the top stories in Charleston today:
- A 10-year-old K9 named Bostic with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is retiring. According to CCSO, the german shepherd recovered more than $400K in cash and over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana during his time at CCSO. He also found 41 kilos of cocaine in a tractor-trailer. Bostic has since developed some hip problems which led to his retirement from the force. (WCBD News 2)
- Destiny Community Cafe in North Charleston, owned by Ragina Scott-Saunders, announced its closing its doors due to high rent costs. The cafe was built off of philosophy, serving the Lowcountry community thousands of meals, with a "pay-what-you-can" model. Scott-Saunders says her property management company is upping her rent at the cafe to $10,000 in attempts to invest into the area and put bars and restaurants where her business currently is. (WBTW)
- The Loutrel, a new 50-room luxury hotel, opened its doors yesterday in Charleston's historic district. (holycitysinner.com)
- In response to flooding in Charleston, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System has acquired a new High Water Vehicle that can wade through water. (ABC NEWS 4)
- The Best of Broadway announced yesterday that tickets to Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will go on sale next Monday, Nov. 8 at 10 am. The show will run from April 22nd to 24, 2022 at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. (holycitysinner.com)
