Here are the top three stories in Charleston today:

  1. The Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation Center began caring for an oil-covered bird on Aug. 11 after it was rescued from a West Ashley pond. The osprey bird could not regulate its temperature or eat when covered in the oil. The restaurant Rio Chico on Magwood Drive is reportedly the reason why the bird was covered in oil. The restaurant's broken kitchen line caused grease to travel to the pond through a storm drain. Moran Environmental Recovery has been hired by the restaurant to remedy the issue. (Charleston Post Courier)
  2. Charleston has officially cut the ribbon on a new affordable housing apartment complex. The new apartments are located in the 1800 block of Ashley Crossing Lane. The project is meant for families earning less than 60 percent of the Charleston area's median income. Click for more information on the apartment complex. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. Charleston Animal Society will have a new cat space thanks to The Jackson Galaxy Project. The existing space will be renovated over the coming weeks by the program of Greater Good Charities. The space will feature new cat enrichments such as cubbies, perches, and scratchers. (ABC NEWS 4)
