- Charleston County has selected a new director of the Emergency Management Department. Joe Coates was selected after serving in the role of interim director for Emergency Management since July 2021. Coates began working with the County in 2008 and has a bachelor's degree in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University. (holycitysinner.com)
- The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has confirmed the identification of an officer-involved shooting subject killed in North Charleston this past weekend. Junnie Williams, 35, of North Charleston, died in the emergency room at Trident Medical Center around 4:56 a. m. on Sunday. Police were attempting to catch a vehicle break-in suspect which resulted in the shooting incident. (WTMA)
- According to an analysis by the Transportation Safety Administration, the Charleston International Airport led South Carolina's six commercial airports in the number of firearm discoveries in 2021. TSA officers discovered a total of 72 firearms in travelers' carry-on luggage last year which, according to TSA spokesman Mark Howell, is a new annual record for the state. (Live 5 News WCSC)
