Here are the top stories today in Charleston:

  1. Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services was one of several organizations that received a $50k grant. The grant, which was given by the Leon Levine Foundation, will go to building equitable communities in Charleston. Last month, Our Lady of Mercy opened a free dental clinic in downtown Charleston to provide care for people who may not be able to afford dental procedures. (ABC NEWS 4)
  2. Charleston's annual MOJA Arts Festival began on Thursday and will run through Oct. 10 to celebrate African-American and Caribbean culture. The event is being put on by The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the all-volunteer MOJA Planning Committee. Due to the pandemic, the festival will not have large-scale public events or ticketed performances from national and international artists. (ABC NEWS 4)
  3. The Murdaugh investigation has revealed that Maggie Murdaugh, wife prominent South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, spoke with a Charleston divorce lawyer weeks before her death back in June. (WTMA)
  4. The City of Charleston is improving Huger Street in two areas to help with flooding issues and to help bicyclists around downtown. (WCBD News 2)
  5. Although their Spruill Ave location is closing after 67 years, Dukes Bar-B-Q's sister location on Chestnut Street will be expanding. (The Times and Democrat)
