Here are the top stories today in Charleston:
- Charleston officials are warning residents to be aware of possible major tidal flooding in low-lying areas through Saturday. Today's high tide is expected to reach approximately 8.1 feetand Saturday morning's high tide could land on the top ten highest crests for the Charleston Harbor. The city is coordinating with the National Weather Service to mobilize personnel and equipment, prepare for road closures, and assemble signage that will remind drivers to avoid flooded roadways. - A local Charleston oysterman is expecting this year's oyster harvest to be plentiful after being impacted by COVID-19 in 2020. Oysters were in excess supply last year, costing oysterman Paul Godbout, who runs Strictly Shellfish, almost $40k. Oyster season is now underway in the Lowcountry and will continue through May 15. - The secretary of Labor Marty Walsh visited the Port of Charleston on Wednesday with the intention of discussing supply chain disruption issues and the Biden-Harris administration's support for workers and employers. Walsh's visit comes as union workers at SC ports are calling for change. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- Freshfields Village Shopping Center is setting up a special mailbox open between Nov. 26 and Dec. 20 to help support the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center. Each letter to Santa that gets dropped into the mailbox will lead to a $5 donation to the center. (WTMA)
- Community Outreach officers with the Charleston Police Department helped to distribute over 40 grocery boxes, non-perishable food, and hygienic products to the residents of Joseph Floyd Manor this week. (WCBD News 2)
