Happy Wednesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started. These are the most important things happening today in Charleston.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy and warmer. High: 60 Low: 38.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Charleston:

  1. After a failed attempt in September, some Charleston leaders are hoping a new proposal for a permanent racial conciliation commission in the city gets pushed forward. The first reading of the proposal for the Human Affairs and Racial Conciliation Commission was approved during Tuesday's city council meeting. The goal of the group is to take a stand against racism and repair the ties between the city and the local Black community. (WCBD News 2)
  2. In the early hours of Saturday morning, the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a man who shot into a crowd outside The Lobby, a bar located at 8484 Dorchester Road. Officers were monitoring as people left the bar when a man "fired several rounds toward the general area of the crowd in the parking lot," according to police. After a brief police chase, Deandre Brown, 21, was taken into custody and now faces multiple weapons-related charges. (WCBD News 2)
  3. The Blood Connection is partnering with The City of Charleston and the Hilton Garden Inn Charleston Waterfront/Downtown for an emergency holiday blood drive today (Dec. 22) at 45 Lockwood Drive. All donors will receive a $20 e-gift card, an exclusive holiday t-shirt, and will be entered into a gift basket raffle. Make an appointment here. (holycitysinner.com)
