Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston County councilmember Kyle Middleton, representing District 6, announced a town hall to present updates on the Glenn McConnell widening project. The town hall will be on Mar. 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bees Ferry Library on Sanders Road. The project manager will be at the event to provide construction updates and to share information about the process. (ABC NEWS 4)
  2. The Department of Veterans Affairs presented a report that calls for expanding the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. The plan would add a second medical center in Summerville and add a new tower to the downtown Charleston VA facility. According to department officials, the plan would also close the Charleston City Hall Lane and Trident sites with services being relocated to the new Summerville location. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. Charleston Animal Society partnered with World's Best Cat Litter for a social media campaign focused on raising funds for homeless pets. The company would donate $5 to the society for every photo of a cat in their litterbox that is posted to social media under a designated hashtag. $5,000 has been pledged towards the campaign with additional activities being planned for Celebrity Paws in the Park on Mar. 19.
