Good day, people of Charleston! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with the latest copy of the Charleston Daily.
First, today's weather:
Warmer with clouds and sun. High: 64 Low: 44.
Here are the top two stories today in Charleston:
- Polly Daniels Sheppard, a survivor of the massacre at the Emanuel AME church in South Carolina, has started giving out scholarships from her Polly Sheppard Foundation to students. Sheppard set aside money from speaking engagements and other events to create the foundation after working as a nurse for 14 years at the Charleston County jail. She says she was inspired by witnessing the lack of health workers with compassion for the people they might be helping behind bars. (WCBD News 2)
- The city of Charleston announced the development of The Refinery, a new space that brings live music, food, and entertainment to the Upper Peninsula. This new complex will be located at 1640 Meeting Street Road. The attached amphitheater looks to schedule contracts and events throughout 2022. (WCBD News 2)
