Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston County will receive more than $75 million from the recent $1.5 trillion spending package signed by President Joe Biden. The funding will go towards critical infrastructure projects. One project is a $59 million Joint Base Charleston project that involves over 60 federal agencies. (WCBD News 2)
  2. In addition to the above critical infrastructure projects, Charleston County will use $16.1 million from the $1.5 trillion federal spending package to fund the Airport Connect Road project. The funds will be used to provide direct access to Charleston International Airport from Interstate 526 in an attempt to separate commuters and airport traffic. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2024 with the full timeline accessible at the following link. (wpde.com)
  3. The Charleston County School District is currently accepting applications for its free summer meal program. The program provides free breakfast and lunch to students during the summer months. The meals are prepared at ten different locations throughout the week. (WTMA)
