Here are the top three stories in Charleston today:

  1. A survey conducted by the Charleston Teacher Alliance indicates that Charleston County School District teachers perceive the school board as ineffective. 718 teachers completed the survey. They rated the board a 1.8 on a four-point scale. They reported that the board was ineffective in addressing pay, class size, discipline, retention, and curriculum changes. (ABC NEWS 4)
  2. North Charleston City Councilman Jerome Heyward received a written warning from a Charleston County Sheriff's Department deputy during a Sunday traffic stop. The exact details of the traffic stop have not been released. Heyward has filed a complaint with the department. The department reports that the incident report will be released after an internal assessment. (Charleston City Paper)
  3. The Charleston County School District is preparing for the return of unpaid lunch bills. The district has absorbed $1.7 million in student lunch debt over the last ten years. That debt is paid through the district's general budget. The federal government has been covering school lunches for children for the last two years, but that assistance will end this year.
