Costumed interpreters will demonstrate how Charleston's first settlers defended the early colony, then known as Charles Towne, with black powder muskets. Demonstrations are set for 1, 2 and 3 p.m., weather permitting, at Charles Towne Landing at 1500 Old Towne Road. Musket demonstrations are scheduled for the first saturday each month.
The South Windermere branch of the Charleston County Public Library will provide a session on creating a patriotic star wreath at 2 p.m. The branch is located at 45 Windermere Blvd.
Independence Weekend at Middleton Place
Celebrate America's independence at the home of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence at Middleton Place. From 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. take a trip back to the 18th Century with costumed interpreters, military field music and musket demonstrations, cooking demonstrations and see what a Revolutionary War soldier's life was like in camp. Middleton Place's Independence Weekend also runs on Sunday, and South Carolina residents receive 1/2 off admission with a valid SC driver's license. Middleton Place is located at 4300 Ashley River Road.

Learn about animals
Informational programs about residents of Charles Towne Landing's Animal Forest are set for 2 p.m. Sunday. Park employees will teach guests about the otters and pelicans in residence in the Animal Forest, their feeding habits and why the park has the animals.
Monday
Magnolia Gardens July 4th Celebration
Learn about the man who put the fireworks into the Fourth of July at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens during its July 4th Celebration. Though there won't be a fireworks display due to safety concerns there will be costumed historic interpreters, a discussion of Carolina Gold Rice, The Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild, the Plantation Singers, a Native America culture demonstration and guided garden walks. Military families get free admission with a military ID card. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is located at 3550 Ashley River Road.
