Wreck snarls traffic on Savannah Highway
Three car pile up just past intersection of Savannah Highway and W. Oak Forest Drive causes slowdowns in both directions
CHARLESTON - A three vehicle wreck just past the intersection of Savannah Highway southbound and W. Oak Forest Drive around 10:30 a.m. today snarled traffic on Hwy. 17 in both directions.
Details on the number of people involved in the accident, the extent of injuries and cause were not immediately available, but more than a dozen emergency vehicles responded, including police, fire and EMS. Several people were transported via EMS for treatment.
While Charleston Police officers directed traffic around the accident to Ravenel Drive, two of the vehicles involved, both compact sedans, remained in the southbound lanes of Savannah Highway. The third vehicle, a full size pickup hauling a trailer was parked in the median.
Firefighters had to cut a door off of one of the cars involved.

Six people suffered minor injuries in the accident and were transported for treatment.
One of the driver's rear ended the vehicle it was following, causing it to also rear end the vehicle ahead of it, according to City of Charleston Police.
