Expect live music, kids' activities, local vendors, guided tours on Columbia's Black history, and free bus tours, making it an easy, family-friendly way to connect with the city's heritage.
   

2. USC expert weighs in on AI debate (abccolumbia.com) — A longtime University of South Carolina AI researcher in Columbia says residents should stay curious but not fearful about emerging technologies, emphasizing their potential benefits in medicine, environment, and industry. He and colleagues are planning a free AI-focused event for senior citizens at USC's Science and Technology Building on October 23rd to answer questions and ease concerns.
   

3. A new Columbia Chick-fil-A has an opening date in a busy area. Check out where (thestate.com) — A new Chick-fil-A is opening Sept. 17 on Lemonade Lane just off Hard Scrabble Road in northeast Columbia, bringing another fast-food option to this already busy corridor. With a play area, breakfast service, and long daily hours, it's positioned near local schools and shopping, adding to the area's growing cluster of restaurants and retailers.
   

4. A.C. Flora High School given state 'school of excellence' award (wistv.com) — Columbia's A.C. Flora High School has been honored as a state School of Excellence for its efforts to guide seniors through the college application process. During a recognition ceremony in Columbia, students worked directly with counselors, college representatives, and state staff to complete applications, reflecting the school's focus on preparing Falcons for college, careers, or military paths after graduation.
   

5. Businesses speak out about the shooting that injured eight along Decker Boulevard (wltx.com) — A weekend shooting in a Decker Boulevard plaza in Columbia left eight people injured and has nearby businesses and residents on edge. With few details released and no clear word on suspects, locals describe repeated violence in the area and say it's hurting both neighborhood safety and nearby shops while deputies continue investigating.
