1. S.C. State Museum removes KKK flier from exhibit after visitors raise concerns (wrdw.com) — The South Carolina State Museum in Columbia has pulled a Ku Klux Klan flier from its 'American Battleground' exhibit after visitors said its placement beside a Strom Thurmond photo implied a false KKK connection. Museum leaders say the change is meant to clarify the historical narrative while keeping the broader exhibit on Revolutionary-era legacies intact for Columbia visitors.
2. Allen University seeks public input on restoration of Coppin Hall (carolinapanorama.com) — Allen University is inviting Columbia residents to share feedback on restoring historic Coppin Hall at 1530 Harden Street, an important landmark in the university's historic district. Community members can email comments through October 31, helping shape how this Columbia campus building is preserved for future generations.
3. Chad Gable To Defend Intercontinental Title Against Saquon Shugars At NXT Live Event (wrestlingattitude.com) — A WWE NXT live show is set for tonight at Columbia's historic Township Auditorium, where Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable will defend his title against rising star Saquon Shugars. Local wrestling fans can also see main roster standout IYO SKY as NXT continues expanding its touring schedule beyond Florida.
4. 'Dutch' invasion continues: New coffee shop coming to busy West Columbia area (thestate.com) — A new Dutch Bros Coffee drive-thru is under construction on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia, adding another option just across the river from Columbia residents. It joins several recently opened or converted Dutch Bros locations around Columbia, Lexington, and Irmo, signaling a rapid expansion of the chain across the Midlands. No opening date has been announced yet.
5. Benedict College Scholars selected for inaugural National Black Empowerment Council HBCU Fellowship (carolinapanorama.com) — Benedict College, located in Columbia, is celebrating three students chosen for the inaugural National Black Empowerment Council HBCU Fellowship, including finance major Jacob Holmes from Columbia. Their selection spotlights local academic talent and gives these students national networking, leadership training, and exposure to issues shaping Black communities and the broader economy.
