1. Zion Baptist Church to install new pastor (carolinapanorama.com) — Historic Zion Baptist Church in Columbia will formally install Rev. Dr. James Palmer Jr. as its 13th pastor on Sunday, October 11, with related services beginning October 7. Palmer, a retired Army chaplain and active Columbia NAACP member, brings decades of ministry and military leadership. The church is inviting members, neighboring congregations, and the wider Columbia community to join the celebration.
2. Annual Isabel Law Breakfast raises awareness on cancer and mammograms (wistv.com) — Columbia residents gathered downtown today for the Isabel Law Breakfast at Boyd Plaza, celebrating breast cancer survivors and urging women to stay current on mammograms. First responders flipped pancakes, a live auction raised money, and proceeds support Prisma Health's push for a mobile mammography van to reach more Midlands women where they live and work.
3. Furry Friends Friday: Meet Itachi (wistv.com) — A playful 8‑month‑old Terrier mix named Itachi is looking for an adoptive family in Columbia through Pawmetto Lifeline's Shelter Diversion Program. Volunteers say he's energetic, athletic, and already knows basic commands, and they recommend an active home with older children and possibly another mature dog. Interested Columbia families can apply in advance online to schedule a weekday adoption appointment.
4. South Carolina Lottery Mega Millions, Pick 3 results for Oct. 2, 2026 (greenvilleonline.com) — If you bought a lottery ticket in South Carolina, here are the Oct. 2 winning numbers and exactly how to claim any prize. Smaller winnings can be redeemed at retailers, but larger prizes must be mailed in or claimed in person at the Columbia claims center on Assembly Street, with clear ID and deadline rules laid out for players.
