1. Inmate dies after she was found unresponsive in cell at SC prison, officials say (thestate.com) — A woman incarcerated at Columbia's Camille Graham Correctional Institution died at a local hospital after being found unresponsive in her cell on Sept. 26, and officials are investigating it as a suspected suicide. State law enforcement, the Richland County coroner and the Department of Corrections' inspector general are all reviewing what happened, and more details, including autopsy results, are still pending.
2. Person killed in crash with tractor trailer on I-26 in South Carolina, cops say (thestate.com) — A person walking on I-26 was struck and killed by a tractor trailer early Friday just outside Columbia near the Broad River Road junction, according to state troopers. The Richland County Coroner is working to identify the victim as officials note a rising toll of traffic deaths locally and statewide this year.
3. South Carolina Lottery Pick 3, Pick 4 results for Oct. 4, 2026 (greenvilleonline.com) — If you play South Carolina's lottery games, Sunday's Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash Pop, and Palmetto Cash 5 results are now in, and larger winners must claim prizes in person at the Assembly Street headquarters in Columbia. The article explains where and how to cash in tickets of different amounts, plus deadlines and documentation you'll need to get paid.
4. Federal judge tosses lawsuit claiming S.C. violated rights of disabled voters (wrdw.com) — A federal judge in Columbia dismissed a lawsuit claiming South Carolina's voting rules illegally restricted assistance for disabled voters, finding the plaintiffs lacked standing because they couldn't show anyone was actually denied help. The case was tossed without prejudice, so advocates could try again later, but for now the state's current assistance limits remain in place for elections.
5. Missouri rout of Florida shakes up AP Top 25; top teams unchanged (statenews.net) — South Carolina's heartbreaking 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky in Columbia is part of a wild Week 5 that shook up the AP Top 25, even knocking the Wildcats out of the rankings. While the Gamecocks remain unranked, the update shows how their near-upset factored into national perceptions as Missouri, Alabama and others climbed the poll ladder.
