Columbia Police investigating deadly apartment shooting (abccolumbia.com) β Columbia police are investigating a deadly Thursday night shooting at an apartment on Brook Pines Drive, where a man later died at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Detectives are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity or has information to contact Crimestoppers or use the P3 Tips app to help move the case forward.

What to expect from the 2026 South Carolina State Fair (counton2.com) β The South Carolina State Fair returns to Columbia Oct. 15β25, bringing rides, classic fair food, and new attractions like the Pegasus ride and a first-ever souvenir shop. Columbia-area residents should note special discount days, $20 general admission, changing parking prices near a USC football game, and that parking proceeds support scholarships for South Carolina students.

Victims remembered during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (islandpacket.com) β A recent Silent Witness Ceremony at the South Carolina State Capitol in Columbia honored 40 people statewide, including several Richland County victims, who were killed in domestic violence incidents in 2025. State leaders used the event to spotlight South Carolina's persistently high rate of women killed by men and urged continued efforts to support survivors and hold abusers accountable.

Man accused of fighting deputies after foot chase in northwest Columbia appears in bond court (wach.com) β Northwest Columbia residents may notice a heavier law enforcement presence after deputies arrested a man who allegedly ran from them near Zimalcrest Drive, fought during a foot chase, and was found with a firearm. The suspect now faces multiple charges, including assault while resisting arrest, firearm and fentanyl offenses, attempted escape, and property damage, with substantial cash bonds set in court.
