1. One Dead, One Injured Following Incident at Fort Mill Condos (fortmillsun.com) — Fort Mill police are investigating a deadly Sunday evening disturbance at the Cascades condominium complex on Delta Drive that left one person dead and another hospitalized. Officers say the situation is contained and there's no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have not released the victims' names or detailed what happened as detectives continue gathering information.
2. York County Council Defers Split Zoning Rewrite and Approves $1,055,000 York Conservation Deal (fortmillsun.com) — York County Council advanced several decisions that directly affect Fort Mill, including first approval to rezone 367 townhome parcels in Ashe Downs, Cole Creek, Pikeview Place and Town Square into a modern townhome district. Council also backed a grant application for Project Bolt, a proposed light-manufacturing employer off State View Boulevard in Fort Mill, and heard renewed resident concerns about Silfab's Logistics Lane operations and school safety.
3. Silfab is furloughing employees at its Fort Mill facility. Here's the latest (heraldonline.com) — Silfab Solar has temporarily furloughed some workers at its Fort Mill plant because of short-term shortages of production materials, though core operations are continuing. The move comes amid ongoing legal and community battles over whether Silfab's manufacturing work and chemical use are appropriate so close to Fort Mill schools and neighborhoods, after earlier chemical incidents heightened local scrutiny.
4. S.C. Provides $2.8M for Free School Breakfasts to All Students (andersonobserver.com) — Fort Mill families will see a direct benefit from South Carolina's new $2.8 million program providing free school breakfasts to every public school student this year. The funding closes gaps for districts like Fort Mill (York 4), which doesn't qualify for an existing federal free-meal program. Educators and advocates say the move will help students focus and ease grocery costs for many households.
