Pets of the Week: Hydrangea and Polyester Are Looking for Their Forever Homes (yoconews.com) — Two adoptable pets at the Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill—Hydrangea the shy-but-sweet young cat and Polyester the chatty husky mix—are ready for new homes and already fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Local residents can call the shelter on Regent Parkway to schedule a visit, learn about adoption, or explore ways to volunteer and support the animals.
2. Fort Mill schools asks SC governor to block Silfab chemicals, manufacturing (heraldonline.com) — Fort Mill School District is urging Gov. Henry McMaster to block chemical deliveries and commissioning at Silfab Solar's plant near Flint Hill schools, after earlier chemical releases and ongoing zoning disputes. Residents, a local advocacy group, and state Rep. David Martin are also pressing for stronger state review before manufacturing resumes as early as October 18.
3. Nation Ford Marching Band Defends BandBEAT Championship Title (fortmillsun.com) — Nation Ford High School's marching band just repeated as overall champion at the BandBEAT Marching Band Championship hosted at Catawba Ridge High in Fort Mill, edging out Fort Mill High for the 5A title. The Falcons swept all major caption awards and now head to Conway this weekend to compete at the Bands of America Carolina Regional.
4. Winthrop Athletics Rallies Community for 3rd Annual Team Impact 'All In 5K' at the Lake (fortmillsun.com) — Winthrop University student‑athletes are inviting Fort Mill–area residents to join the third annual Team Impact 'All In 5K' at Rock Hill's Winthrop Lake Loop on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. The inclusive event raises funds and awareness to connect children facing serious illnesses with college sports teams, encouraging participants of all ages and abilities to run, walk, roll, or cheer.
